Buster Olney: Pirates, Konnor Griffin talking long-term contract

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates are in active contract negotiations with top prospect Konnor Griffin, with the two sides apart on value — Pittsburgh favoring a deal in the range of Corbin Carroll’s $111M extension, while Griffin’s camp is pushing closer to Roman Anthony’s $130M pact.

The 19-year-old shortstop, ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect for 2026, slashed .333/.941 OPS in the minors last season and is currently at Triple-A Indianapolis after an impressive spring. A long-term deal would signal a commitment to winning alongside ace Paul Skenes and a retooled offense.
