Arizona Diamondbacks rookie José Fernández turned in one of the most electrifying MLB debuts in recent memory Tuesday night, slugging two home runs and delivering a go-ahead three-run shot in the eighth inning to power a stunning comeback victory over the Detroit Tigers.
The 22-year-old Venezuelan, who had been playing in the minors just 24 hours earlier, stepped in for injured Nolan Arenado and proceeded to etch his name into franchise history as just the eighth player ever to go deep twice in a big-league debut.
